Punggol Residents to Get 4 More MRT Stations by 2031

By 2031, Punggol residents will get four more train stations to directly connect them to the eastern part of Singapore, to places like Tampines and Pasir Ris.

The line is an extension of the Cross Island Line, and will act as a shuttle service to supplement the buses that currently ply the route.

With the new extension, commuters can expect to save up to 25 minutes when they travel, for example, from Punggol Central to Pasir Ris, the Land Transport Authority said.

Construction of the underground Punggol, Riviera, Elias and Pasir Ris stations will begin in 2022 and the stations are expected to be opened by 2031.

Three of the four stations - Punggol, Riviera and Pasir Ris - will be interchange stations. Travel time between Pasir Ris and Punggol will be halved with the construction of an MRT line extension linking the two towns by 2031.

Residents of Pasir Ris, especially those of the future Pasir Ris Central Residences, mixed development next to Pasir Ris MRT will greatly benefit from the convenience.

Dr Puthucheary, who is also a Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, noted the gazetting of the Punggol extension was another step towards the completion of the Cross Island Line, which at 50km will be Singapore's longest fully underground MRT line when completed.
He was speaking during a visit to the site of tunnels leading to the future Punggol Coast MRT station – which will serve the upcoming Punggol Digital District when completed in 2023 – together with Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Sun Xueling.
